Wilmington North Carolina Waterfront Dining and Bed and Breakfast Fun

To those of you who tend to be drawn to the South Carolina beaches and Myrtle Beach traditions, you may want to take a slight detour north and enjoy the hidden riches that lie in the Port city of Wilmington, North Carolina. This historic city and its many offerings have played host to civil war engagements, been the home for the first USO ( supporting our troops ) in 1941 and is the birth place of many inspiring artists.

The Wilmington, NC waterfront and Cotton Exchange area host an almost endless variety of privately owned boutiques, eateries and art galleries. Choices lie only in your taste for the day. You can enjoy a New Orleans style breakfast on downtown Water Street, grab a home-made Irish Shepard's pie at Paddy's Hollow in the Cotton Exchange or visit Circa 1922, for a light tapas experience. Whether its locally prepared shrimp and gits or traditional New York style pizza, the Wilmington, NC water front has it all.

My favorite and a must stay for every visitor is the Front Street Inn Bed and Breakfast, located off of Front Street on the southern end of the downtown area. Highway 40 East to Hwy 17 will bring you into Wilmington from the West and North, or Hwy 17 from the south Myrtle Beach direction. They even have a few rooms which allow for PETS : ) If you travel with a pet - another downtown option is the Coastline Inn/Best Western, a more traditional styled hotel ; yet, still caters nicely to dogs lovers with a ( free doggy bone ) at check-in and a nicely designed waterfront, pet walking area.

Another unknown fact about that Wilmington downtown area is that it hosts some of the best live plays and productions in the southern part of the state. Musicals, plays and some of the most thought-provoking independent films are shown here throughout the year at Thalian Hall. Another favorite are the night-time tours ( Ghost Walks, Haunted Pub Crawls for adults and Hollywood Location walks. Wilmington, NC hosts enough unique adventures that I've placed it on my top list for must visit places in the state of North Carolina.
